Double page spread research

Kerrang

This double page spread from Kerrang is a interview with the the lead singer Jared Leto from 30 Seconds to mars. it is laid out as a question and answer piece with one quote in the middle which stands out. the fist questions are about his music and recent success, then the interview becomes more relaxed and light hearten. the interviewer asks questions more about his life which gives the interview a more personal feeling. I think that the picture in this spread works extremely well. it is a extreme close up but in great detail. it almost looks as if he is reading the text with you.

This double page is from Q and is a interview
Q
with Damon Albarn. it is again a question and
answer layout. through the middle there are photos
of records that he owns for example his fist ever
record. the questions start casual "how has you day
been?" then they go to his career and similar to
Kerrang the questions become light heated and more
about his day to day life.  I think that the picture in
this works well and is in great detail however to me
he seems isolated on the other page, however the two
do look like they belong together.

This double page spread from NME is a interview
NME
with Rostam Batmangly from Vampire Weekend.
this unlike the others is not laid out as a Question and
answer instead it tells the story of the interview in a more
traditional way. in the middle there is a insert advertising
there new album.  the picture in this one for me works
well as it gives a idea of his personality.

In all the three different magazines the covers all look very different however the double page spreads look similar and could all be from the same magazine. they all have one page for the picture and one for the content. They all have a insert in the middle and the interviewers style are similar also.

front cover construction

Process
Front Cover

  • I cut out the person in my picture using the magnetic lasso tool
  • I then changed the brightness and contrast
  • Then I used and spot healing brush to get rid of any blemishes
  • After the picture I found the font I wanted for the name on "dafont"
  • However it was all in black and I thought it would look good if some of it was red so I used the paint brush on a new layer to cover parts and make it red.
  • When the name was in place I found a Bar code on Google and placed it on the cover and then added the name and price
  • I then found a suitable strapline and font to use and placed it on with a quotation.
  • I then went back to google and found a picture of a lable and put that on my cover
  • I then used the eraser to get rid of its background and then typed in the writing but I had to use the paint brush to add the half hidden 'E'
  • After this I added all the subtitles showing the content inside the magazine.
