Magazine
My magazine will be either country music or rock and roll. I thought of country as i like it and it would be different as not many people will do it however rock which i also like will be more popular and may have more in common with the readers. I love music listing to artists from Johny cash and Dean martin to Elvis and the Beatles to Queen, Oasis, Bon Jovi and the Killers. However the magazine can only cover one type therefor i have to choose one i have come up with my top five titles bellow.
- Old-time music (OTM) is a genre of North American folk music , with roots in the of many countries, including England, Scotland, Ireland and countries in Afica.
- Indie rock and roll (IRR) is a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1980s. Indie rock is extremely diverse, with sub-genres that include lo-fi, post rock, indie pop, noise rock and emo, among others.
- indie Seen- i like this as it is a play on the indie scene and also the abbreviation would be IS which has a good ring.
- Rockabilly is a portmanteau of rock (from rock 'n' roll) and hillbilly, the latter a reference to the country music.
- Independent label rock (ILR) this is the definition of indie rock meaning bands that are not under a label and have freedom to experiment with any music.
- New Wave Rock (NWR) this is again another meaning of indie rock.

KERRANG - December 2009
- This magazine is produced by Bauer Consumer Media
- The target audience would be fans of rock music aged from between 15-30 as there are a mixture of young and older bands
- The magazine costs £2.60 which is the same price as the competitor NME the subscription is £30.50 for six months
- The magazine is published once a week
- The circulation is 43,033 per issue
- The cover gives the impression of dark, heavy, metal music. you know straight away from the black background that the music is quite specified to one type. unlike NME which is much brighter this is also less organized giving it a less formal appearance.
The Cover
- The title is 'Why 2009 Rocked' this title tells us that this edition will look back though the year looking at the best bits.
- The Masterhead is 'Kerrang'. this is a strange heading however gives the impression of the type of music i covers by being quite weird and different.
- The strapline is 'Slipknot, You Me At Six' this is just showing two well known bands that feature in the magazine this helps as big names draw in customers.
- The image is of five different people who are all looking out at the reader this draws people in. Some also have things like Christmas crackers which shows the time of year that it is.
- Other images that appear are at the bottom and they show the different artists that are in the magazine.
- The content advertised by the cover lines are interviews with different musicians, also there are reviews and posters advertised.
- The fonts used all look quite worn and messy giving it a casual feeling there is also a wide variety of color with white black yellow and red are all used compared to NME which is much more neat and organized.
- This cover is very different to other magazines as there does not appear to be much order and things just seemed to be squeezed in.
- There are 87 pages
- There are 7 pages used for advertisement as you can see to the side which is far less than other magazines such as NME
- The magazine achieves a House style by keeping the spread untidy and informal all the way though and also using dark colors continuously.
- The double page spreads are also common with 8 and are a good way to show a lot of information on one topic you can see two examples bellow.
5. the fact that it is a Christmas edition means that there is much more in the magazine as it rounds up the whole year.

Preliminary Task
3/10/11- Today we planed out our preliminary task thinking of names for the magazine, the layout, cover picture and the content inside. We also took pictures around the school in total around 20. We did this to try and get on for the front cover however I already know what picture I want, but I couldn't get it as I need some one in a rugby kit therefor I just used today mainly as practice. However there were some good photos that I may use in my con-tense page. At the moment I think my magazine will be called 'wilmo weekly' and my feature article will be called 'Sebastian Panas on the move up to 6th form rugby'.

AS Brief
Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally you must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate your grasp of DTP.
Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style).
